THE PRESENTATION OF CHARTER took place on Wednesday 12th April 1978 by 'The District Governor' John Carrick at the Dural Country Club, Old Northern Road, and Dural.

The Rotary Club of Galston came into being through the efforts of the members of the Rotary Club of Dural. Twenty six men accepted the invitation to join Rotary International in District 9680. The club was guided through its first year by the District Governor's Special Representative Jim Cleary, Past President of Dural Club, with George Addison the Charter President.

Although Galston is a small country village, the Rotary Club has been vibrant in many areas, using creativity for new fundraising ideas. So many community groups and individuals in need have been supported by this club. The membership remained, as today, in the low 20's which in no way hindered the many fundraising activities.

Today the fundraising activities are varied, with two main projects a year. The first is the Book Fair which takes 10 months of book collecting and sorting before the Fair takes place in July of each year. The second event is The Galston Country Music Festival. Again the organisation spans 12 months of the year with the three months leading up to the event keeping one Committee Member Vikki Page working full time and the Chairman Tony Page working each evening after work. The other Rotary members support these two hard workers by taking on projects linked to this great local Community Day.

In 1982/3 the Spring Fair was held at Galston Park, in 1991/2 the fair moved to Fagan Park, Galston. In 1997/8 the Spring Festival became The Country Music Festival. The Founding Directors of the Festival were Tony and Vikki Page, Len Knight and Pat Drummond, and the current serving executive directors are Tony and Vikki Page, Pat Drummond, Helen Kay, Greame Johnson and Steve Passfield. The Festival is held on the second weekend of every September. The final and major concert of the Festival is held at Fagan Park in Galston on the northern rural fringe of Sydney, the state Capitol of New South Wales, Australia. All funds raised go to promote the activities of Galston Rotary Club. The Patron of the Festival is Frank Ifield who spends time in Australia and overseas promoting this event and the Australian Country Music performers who appear on our stage.

Recently we lost a dear friend Jim Adams whose boundless energy and enthusiasm will be sadly missed. A few members are in the process of moving from our area. New members have been welcomed. We are a Rotary Club that can boast of hard working men and women as members and fellows. In this small space it is impossible to pay tribute to the many outstanding contributions from past and present Rotarians and their families. The community is the richer because of them.
