FESTIVAL CHARTER
Introduction
The Horizon Music Festival is held annually on the Third weekend of May to raise funds for charity and community groups, and to promote emerging young music performers. It aim is to showcase young artists of professional quality while retaining the community focus of Rotary International.
Aims & Objectives
· To provide
local charity and community groups with a venue in which to showcase
their services and an opportunity to generate funds to assist
in their work in the community.
· Provide
wide public exposure for other local service groups.
· Provide
a safe and enjoyable family oriented event.
· To generate
an overall surplus for distribution to selected charities.
· Promote
The Australian Catholic University, its aethestic and Educational
attractions to all the people of Sydney.
· To promote
young performers to a large Sydney audience.
· To support
and encourage independent emerging Music artists.
· To establish
the Festival as the premier Sydney based Youth Music Festival.
Mission Statement
The Horizon Music Festival is a community based annual event organised by the Rotary Club of Strathfield. The Rotary Club aims to generate a substantial surplus of funds that will be donated to selected charities and also to promote Australian Youth Music particularly in the following categories:
Gospel Indigenous · Hip Hop Jazz Folk · Country · Classical ·
Musical Comedy and Showtunes · · Country Rock · Australian Traditional/Heritage Bush Music
Drama and ·Performance Poetry
Some definitions that may help performers in their applications for a spot are as follows
Folk is generally thought of as 'The Music of the people and has traditionally told the tales of the triumphs and tribulations of various ethnic groups. It has often been used a vehicle for political statement and social protest. In Australia Bush music carries themes include: outback life, the lives of stockmen, songs of romance and of political protest;and songs about the "beauty and the terror" of the Australian bush.
Jazz - Mainstream jazz centres on 'swing', although
most jazz styles combine elements of improvisation and the 'jazz
swing feeling'. A swing feeling is a rhythm with a constant tempo.
In jazz terms this requires a lot of syncopation (accenting notes
before or after the beat) and a continuous rise and fall of tension.
Gospel . The creation, performance, significance,
and even the definition of gospel music varies according to culture
and social context. Gospel music is composed and performed for
many purposes, including aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial
purposes,and as an entertainment product for the marketplace.
Hip Hop Australian hip hop music began in the early
1980s. It was inspired by the original urban African-American
and Chicano cultural movement. It has developed into a solid,
if diverse, local genre with a distinct Australian personality.
Artists and their works that use their lyrics to analyse and discuss
society, politics and how Australian suburbia interacts with the
Australian culture amongst other such subjects
Country - Australian country music is a part
of the music of Australia. There is a broad range of styles, from
bluegrass, to yodeling; from Northern Rivers Heritage Stlye (The
Bush Balladeers) to the more popular country pop, and rock crossover
styles. Themes often cover of the land, truckers and outlaws and
love. It often may bleed into Americana and Australian Bush Music
folk styles
Classical - The music of the classics can be presented
by many different small groups, individuals, orchestras and ensembles.
It portrays The works of classical composers representing music
across history. Music from different cultures As part of
a rich multicultural community there are and am zing collection
of diverse musical styles representing the music of many
cultures and nations.

Originally organised by the Strathfield Club of Galston in 2014 as a community based fair to provide an opportunity for local schools and groups to showcase their students and services to the public at large.
