Trust Of Strangers
(The Fear Pack- send it back)
Words and Music: Pat

Dateline: Leura, NSW
I have always been the
same
I have always trusted strangers
Should that trust betray me
now these dangerous
times draw near
Should my life be swept away
upon this rising tide of anger
So much better to have trusted
Than to live a life in fear.
I do not see my neighbour's
difference
as a threat to my existence
I will not be suspicious
of the strangeness of his ways
I will not accept the mindset
that we live within a fortress
that our very lives must all rest
on the vigilance of hate
I will not support aggression
on the deeply faulted premise
that such violence is preemptive
of some notion of a threat
for the ones you call 'my foe'
They have children like my own
And I will not consign their futures
to such vast suffering and regret
You who call the world
to war
To your hopeless bloody causes
to account you will be called for
all the suffering you've wrought
When you say there is no more
to fill the bellies of the poor
now you've wasted it on weapons
and you've squandered it on war
I have always been the
same
I have always trusted strangers
Should that trust betray me
now these dangerous
times draw near
Should my life be swept away
upon this rising tide of anger
So much better to have trusted
Than to have live a life in fear.
